A dedicated cyclist since childhood, Lake Conroe Cycling owner Cindy Noori has spent four years repairing new and vintage bicycles at her family-operated shop in Montgomery.

The business caters to recreational and competitive cyclists and offers restoration for older bicycle models, bicycle assembly and repair services. The shop also rents and sells bicycles for children and adults and sells accessories such as helmets, gloves and cycling shoes.

“[We offer] a good mixture of mountain bikes and road bikes,” Cindi said. “I would say [we sell] about a third of each [if you include] hybrid bikes.”

Cindy and her husband, Majid, opened the shop in April 2011 and asked their adult son, Paymon, to manage the business. She said they wanted to have a business for him to manage, and cycling always caught his interest.

“I was pretty excited about it,” Paymon said. “I just really enjoy working with people.”

Paymon started riding his first bicycle at age 3, Cindy said. Like his mother, he spent time as a competitive cyclist but stopped to operate to the store full-time, Paymon said.

“He is very mechanically inclined,” Cindy said. “Whatever we have, he can take it apart and put together. Bikes are nothing for him [to repair]. He is just really good.”

Although a heart attack affected her ability to ride long distances, Cindy participated in the 2015 MS 150 in Austin and plans to travel the 216-mile Katy Trail in Missouri next year.

“My family would ride for miles on the weekend,” Cindy said. “We would go about 7 miles to the next little town through the back roads and then ride back. We just did things like that as
a family.”

Today, Cindy and Paymon do what they can to support the cycling community. For no charge, the family allows cyclists to use the store’s shower and bathroom and to pitch tents in the backyard if they need a place to sleep.

Cindy said her favorite visitors are the touring cyclists because many are well-educated travelers who have been traveling for months—sometimes from coast to coast.

Cindy said she often meets small groups composed of young couples and solo cyclists along their journey. She likes to give them light snacks and drinks on their way out the shop as a way of being more involved in the cycling community.

“I would hate for anyone to ride off light-headed because they are dehydrated or hungry,” Cindy said. “It is just something I like to do. I want to be a part of what keeps them going.”
