West Lake Hills Mayor Dave Claunch announced his plans to resign at the Nov. 11 city council meeting.
Claunch said he intends to resign after all of the Bee Caves Road right-of-way acquisitions are complete. The project will allow for expansion of Bee Caves Road from St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 5455 Bee Caves Road, to the Westbank Market, 3300 Bee Caves Road.
Claunch said he expects the last two parcels to be acquired by the end of the year.
"I'm really proud of what we have accomplished as a city. There is much to celebrate and I'm very thankful for it."

Claunch said the mayoral position has been rewarding, but challenging and time-consuming. He said he wants to dedicate more time to his two young children and job.

Claunch said he is unsure of the exact time frame that he will be out of his office but expects to tender his resignation by Christmas. He recommended that City Council members appoint someone to fill the position rather than waiting until the May 2016 elections.
