Transportation Updates


1. RR 620 traffic flow


An extended entrance and exit lane on southbound RR 620 from Lohman’s Crossing Road to Spillman Loop will be added in the Lakeway/Bee Cave area to help improve traffic flow on the western Travis County roadway. Dual left-turn lanes onto RR 620 from the intersection of Falcon Head and Ladera boulevards will also be added.


Timeline: November 2015-early 2016
Cost:  $1.4 million

2. Loop 360 turn lanes


Additional turn lanes will be added along Loop 360 between Courtyard and Westbank drives. A left-turn-only lane, an optional left-turn/straight lane and a right-turn-only lane will be added for westbound traffic at the Westbank intersection. A dedicated left-turn lane will be added on northbound Loop 360 at Las Cimas Parkway, and a left-turn lane will be added at the northbound Loop 360 exit ramp at Bee Caves Road.


Timeline: late 2015 to early 2016

3. Loop 360 auxiliary lanes


TxDOT will add auxiliary lanes, or extended turn lanes, on Loop 360 to improve intersections with Walsh Tarlton Lane, the Barton Creek Square Mall entrance, MoPac and the intersection just south of MoPac. A left-turn lane will also be added on the northbound frontage road of MoPac at Loop 360.


Timeline: winter 2015-spring 2017
Cost: $6.44 million

4. MoPac toll lanes


Upon completion the highway will have one new lane in each direction from Parmer Lane to Cesar Chavez Street that will be tolled. Current construction includes bridge widening, building sound walls, installing conduit and cables to support the toll-collection and intelligent transportation systems, and completing the relocation of temporary ramps. The timeline was delayed from a fall 2015 completion to late 2016.

5. Bicycle/pedestrian bridge along MoPac over Barton Creek Greenbelt


Partnering with the city of Austin, TxDOT is constructing a bridge and shared-use path along northbound MoPac lanes over the Barton Creek Greenbelt from one frontage road turnaround to the other near MoPac’s intersections with Southwest Parkway and Loop 360. Remaining work includes adding columns, beams, railings and lights.


Timeline: February 2014-spring 2016
Cost: $7.7 million

Transportation Updates Flint Rock Road[/caption]

6. Flint Rock Road


Approximately 2 miles of the two-lane Flint Rock Road—between RR 620 at Lakeway Regional Medical Center and Serene Hills Drive—will be widened, and an asphalt shoulder will be added. The project is expected to take 15 months to complete depending on the weather, and Travis County will manage the construction phase performed by Smith Contracting Co. Construction began the week of Oct. 19 with the erection of signage and erosion protection. Early segments of the project include brush clearing and the construction of temporary travel lanes for traffic control.


Timeline: October 2015-late 2016
Cost: $9.2 million total with 47 percent funded by the city of Lakeway and 53 percent funded by Travis County
