Four Points Chamber of Commerce luncheon
The Four Points Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly luncheon Oct. 15 at River Place Country Club. VIK Medical representatives attended the luncheon and provided free flu shots to attendees. Veronica Sopher, the assistant superintendent of community and governmental relations for Leander ISD served as the guest speaker. She shared information on the district’s mobile learning initiative.

Lakeway Regional Medical Center demonstration
Lakeway Regional Medical Center presented the da Vinci Surgical System at Lake Travis High School on Oct. 28. Students practiced using the equipment with the guidance of representatives from Intuitive Surgical, the system’s designer. The demonstration featured a da Vinci simulator and surgical system. Students practiced on the simulator, which is used to train residents, before trying the surgical system. Many students said they are interested in working in the medical field.

Formula Fun event
Students showcased their solar-powered race cars at the Formula Fun racing event Oct. 23 held at Abercorn International School, 601 S. RR 620, Lakeway. The students demonstrated their science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills through the event that coincided with Formula One race weekend. Abercorn students (below) used the school’s 3-D printer in addition to other materials to complete their projects.
