West Lake Hills City Council unanimously approved Brian Plunkett Oct. 28 to fill the vacant Place 2 City Council position. The position has been vacant since former council member Taylor Holcomb resigned Oct. 1 to take a job in Houston, City Planner Ashby Grundman said.

Plunkett, who has lived in West Lake Hills for 16 years, said he is excited to connect to the community through his new role. "I think this is a great opportunity to get involved," Plunkett said. "Having lived here so long, I think it's right to put energy into the city—I love it out here." Plunkett is retired and serves on the West Lake Hills Zoning and Planning Commission as a commissioner. "Getting involved with ZAPCO has been a great experience," Plunkett said. "I've seen that choosing ordinances that keep the city as special as it is can be a challenge and I want to be a part of it." Plunkett will be sworn in at the Nov. 11 City Council meeting. His term will expire May 2016 .
