The Texas Department of Transportation and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority will be showing Southwest Austinites the latest designs of the Oak Hill Parkway project at an Oct. 29 open house meeting at the Covington Middle School cafeteria.

The public will be able to view renderings and schematics of two designs, which aim to alleviate traffic congestion at the Hwy. 290 and Hwy. 71 intersection, also known as the Y at Oak Hill. The two designs include the construction of Hwy. 290 main lanes and frontage roads.

The two designs are long-term solutions to traffic problems, as opposed to the short-term fixes that have been recently completed, such as the continuous flow intersections at William Cannon Drive and Hwy. 290 in September, TxDOT spokesperson Kelli Reyna said. This is the sixth open house meeting hosted by the Oak Hill Parkway team, she said.

The Oak Hill Parkway project is currently in the environmental study phase, according to TxDOT. The study is scheduled to be complete in 2016.
