Nearly a dozen Hutto-area residents testified to the character of former Hutto Police Sgt. Paul Leal Thursday night after the officer was terminated July 31.
Leal, a Hutto police officer for six years, served as a school resource officer with Hutto ISD.
Hutto City Manager Karen Daly confirmed Leal was no longer an employee of the city but did not release the reason for his termination.
Representatives of the Hutto Police Officer Association testified Thursday in support of Hutto Police Chief Earl Morrison and City Manager Karen Daly and their leadership of the police department.
City Attorney Charlie Crossfield said City Council has the legal capability to pursue an investigation of the personnel decision but Council voted unanimously to not open an investigation until Leal has the opportunity to pursue due process.
Crossfield said City Council can open an investigation at a later date.
