The Eanes ISD Board of Trustees appointed nine members and four alternate members to its Bond Oversight Committee at a special meeting on July 29.
The committee oversees the budget and tracks projects funded by the $52.5 million bond voters approved in May.
There were 59 applications for the committee positions, said board President Beau Ross.
“So many people are so talented and enthusiastic to help—to give truly authentic input,” Secretary Ellen Balthazar said. “I want us to best be able to harness that for the benefit of our students.”
Board members provided feedback rankings for applicants based on geographical zones, finance and construction experience and community involvement.
Three members from each of the three geographic areas within Eanes ISD were selected as well as four alternate members to “accommodate any future turnover and maintain continuity” said Claudia McWhorter, Eanes ISD director of communications.
The Bond Oversight Committee members include Mike Dansby, Dina Dreifuerst, Erik Eff, Virgil Flathouse (board-appointed chair for the first year), Greg Greeson, John Havenstrite, Kim McMath, Tom Shea, Wendy Smiley, Hillary Calavitta (alternate), Ray Clayton (alternate), Kerry Moll (alternate) and Matt Wernli (alternate).
Ross estimates the 2015 committee will take three to four years to complete its mission. He said he hopes to see the bond funds put to use soon, particularly on school roofs, heating systems and air conditioning systems.
“We need air conditioning repairs done this summer before school starts,” Ross said. “And it’d be great if they can squeeze in any other projects this summer while they have more access to the schools.”
Other proposed uses for the funds include lighting and electrical updates, improving school technology, bus replacements and construction projects such as the District Operations Center and middle school fine arts areas.
