Pearland City Council awarded a $453,635 construction contract at its July 13 meeting to Alcott Inc. for a project that will connect the city’s existing water pipeline through Tom Bass Park to provide another source of water for residents in the Country Place and Lakes of Country Place subdivisions.

The new pipeline will be routed from the current termination point—near the maintenance building on the east side of Tom Bass Park Road—south through the park, where it will connect with the pipeline at East Cedar Hollow Drive in the Lakes of Country Place, according to officials. Alcott will install approximately 2,945 feet of 12-inch pipeline that will run below Clear Creek, through a utility easement and across the golf course.

The project creates an important connection to the existing water system by looping the pipeline along Beltway 8 back into Pearland instead of acquiring easements outside the city’s boundaries, officials said.

“The other [route] option was to continue along Beltway [8] to Fellows Road, Cullen [Boulevard] and back to McHard Road,” Pearland Communications Director Sparkle Anderson said. “This would have been a much more expensive project with limited gain from a water system management perspective.”

The project is expected to be complete within three months.
