Two community events on July 11 will raise support for the families of Christopher Kelley, a Hutto police sergeant killed in the line of duty, and Jana Almendarez, wife of Round Rock Express Manager Chris Almendarez, who was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor.

On Saturday the Round Rock Express will auction autographed limited edition Stars and Stripes caps worn by players and coaches and three engraved bats signed by the team to raise support for Jana Almendarez, wife of Express General Manager Chris Almendarez, who has been diagnosed with Glioblastoma.
Glioblastoma is a rare brain tumor that affects between 20,000 and 200,000 people in the U.S. annually, according to an Express news release.
The silent auction for the caps will begin on the concourse behind home plate at 5:30 p.m. and close at 8:30 p.m. Gray wristbands that say ‘Team Jana’ will also be available for $10 at the Dell Diamond and T-shirts will be available in mid-July for a $25 donation. Proceeds will benefit the Almendarez family. T-shirt orders can be emailed to

A barbecue will be held Saturday at Fritz Park in Hutto in memory of fallen Hutto Police Sgt. Christopher Kelley, who was killed in the line of duty June 24.
Barbecue meals including brisket, chicken, potato salad and bread will be available for monetary donations beginning at 11 a.m.
The event will also feature live music, a silent auction with about 200 items, a live auction, children’s activities, petting zoo and games. All proceeds will benefit the Kelley family.
The barbecue is hosted by The Burn Unit, an Austin-area nonprofit that assists burn victims, military members, veterans and their families. Credit cards and personal checks will be accepted.
A limited number of “Hutto Strong” T-shirts will also be available for $20.
