The Cedar Park Youth Football Association offers football and cheerleading for children ages 3-12.[/caption]In the Cedar Park Youth Football Association, children are encouraged to live healthy, active lifestyles on and off the football field.
Nonprofit CPYFA is an independent athletics league that offers cheerleading and football for children within the Cedar Park middle and high school feeder pattern. John Lucero, president and founder, said the football and cheer programs are modeled after the programs at Cedar Park High School to allow for a smoother transition into high school athletics. The CPYFA plays against other youth football leagues in the area and is part of the largest nonprofit football league in the nation, American Youth Football. On average there are about 200 children enrolled in its programs, and teams are made up of various ages. The organization has teams for children ages 3-12. CPYFA has about seven to 10 games per season, which lasts about three to four months out of the year, Lucero said, and because the sports are physically demanding, a healthy lifestyle is crucial.
Athletes are required to participate in conditioning, he said, and coaches encourage children to be healthy off the field by communicating with parents about healthy diets. For older children, practice for cheer and football includes conditioning three times per week.
“Football is a very demanding sport, so we promote the healthy and active lifestyle through our coaches and training,” Lucero said. “Our program more than exceeds the recommended one hour of daily activity.”
Registration
The Cedar Park Youth Football League is in the midst of registration for its next season, which runs from August to November. Registration is available on the website until June 30, and walk-up registration could be hosted in July. The cost for football includes a uniform and is $225 per player. The cost for cheerleading starts at $265 per child.
