Kellie Anderson Trey KirbyMONTGOMERY ISD Residents voted in favor of the Montgomery ISD $256.75 million school bond in the May 9 referendum. The district will now be able to fund construction of three new schools as well as complete facility upgrades at existing schools.

A 74 percent majority voted in favor of the school bond, with 3,272 votes cast in favor and 1,131 residents voting against the referendum, according to Montgomery County elections office results.

Superintendent Beau Rees said the funds would help the district build facilities to accommodate a rapidly expanding student population.

“These improvements, especially the addition of a second high school, will have a significant impact on our school district for many years to come,” Rees said.

School board candidate Trey Kirby unseated incumbent Steve Williams in the race for Position 4, with 2,282 votes, or 62 percent of votes. Williams received 1,393 votes, or 38 percent of the votes.

Kirby is a graduate of Sam Houston State University and works as division manager for SLS Energy Services. He serves on the campus advisory committees for Montgomery High School and Montgomery Intermediate School, and he volunteers with the Montgomery Little League.

With nearly 60 percent of the vote, Kellie Anderson was elected to the Position 5 seat over opponent Sarah Conway. Anderson received 2,140 votes while Conway received 1,436.

Anderson has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in sociology.
