Austin singer-songwriter Elizabeth McQueen on April 30 debuts "
Infinity + Infinity," an interactive, multimedia performance made possible in part thanks to a city-funded grant.
McQueen, the Grammy-nominated former female singer for Asleep at the Wheel, joins visual artist Jerome Morrison and her newest ensemble, EMQ, which includes guitarist Lauren Gurgiolo and multi-instrumentalist Lindsay Greene. They combine to create new works using cutting-edge animation, motion-sensor technology and other controlled visual elements in tandem with McQueen’s original music.
"I was getting more and more interested in different possibilities in interactive visuals thanks to my friendship and collaboration with Jerome Morrison," McQueen said in a statement. "I'm excited to combine these visuals with my new songs to create an immersive experience for people."
A sample of the work can be seen in a
brief video here from McQueen.
The project is funded in part by the city of Austin's Cultural Arts Division as well as through money McQueen received as a Black Fret inaugural grant recipient. Black Fret is an Austin-based music nonprofit that uses membership dues to reward artists through an annual grant program. McQueen was among 10 Austin artists to receive a Black Fret $10,000 grant last year.
Hosted at an undisclosed location by Austin's Museum of Human Achievement, the show runs twice per night April 30 and May 1. The show as originally slated for early March but was rescheduled due to weather concerns. To purchase tickets,
