Pearland ISD is tackling issues associated with social media with its new "Social MediaTHINK!" initiative, which began April 20.
In response to the type of use connected with cyberbullying, the campaign urges parents and students to be mindful of the negative effects of social media.
Through posts on the district's Facebook and Twitter accounts, PISD will share tips to discourage social media behavior that officials said has been linked to criminal charges and suicides. The district asks students to assess whether their messages are true, helpful, important, necessary or kind before posting.
PISD will host Social Media Parent Night on May 14 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Education Support Center—1928 N. Main St., Pearland—to provide more information and tips. Therapist Sasha Coles McLean and the Pearland Police Department will speak at the event.
