During the April 7 meeting, City Council approved calling a municipal election for Nov. 3 to allow residents to vote on expanding the area affected by the so-called Green Tax.
Approved by voters in 2008, the Green Tax is a sales and use tax of one-eighth of 1 percent that goes toward funding watershed protection, property acquisition and conservation easements along Brodie Lane to protect water in the Edwards Aquifer. The tax must be reauthorized every four years, according to the city. Council discussed expanding the boundaries of the Green Tax from Brodie and Country White lanes to all of Sunset Valley and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.
