After the Hwy. 290 expansion project left the owners of the
Harris County Smokehouse with fewer parking spaces than seats in the dining room, owners Tammy and Harry Chambers decided it was time for a move. Months of construction work to build a new location from the ground up have finally culminated with the restaurant's reopening March 19 at 19811 Hwy. 290, Houston. Located between Gander Mountain and Chuy's, the new location features vaulted ceilings, outdoor seating and a large fireplace.
The family-owned restaurant has been serving barbecue in Cy-Fair at Hwy. 6 and Hwy. 290 since 1988. The owners plan to offer the same barbecue options, burgers and sandwiches along with other menu items from their former location. Although they were forced to relocate, they did not want to move far, Harry said.
"We've been at this location for more than 20 years and the community has been good to us," he said. "The highway expansion has been a challenge, but we think once it's done, business is only going to get better."
The new location is open daily from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. 281-890-5735.
