Pflugerville ISD Students at Connally High School received a firsthand education in the film business March 10 when they screened their senior projectTrue Beef: From Pasture to Plate at the Alamo Drafthouse The Ritz. The documentary was featured as part of the Education Conference at the South by Southwest Music and Media Conference. Ryan Merritt, director of career and technical education at PISD, said the district is now looking to distribute the film beyond the festival. Its been getting rave reviews and a lot of positive feedback, Merritt said. People are getting really excited about it. The documentary, directed by professional Austin filmmaker David Barrow, follows PISD students as they learn about beef production from ranches and stockyards to feedlots and finally to the consumers plate. [The film] focuses not just on the beef industry but also the restaurant industry, he said. Merritt said the documentary is not political. We went to great lengths to make sure its showing the information in a factual manner and letting the students in the film reach their own conclusion, he said. Its a really good educational documentary.
