Technology offers information about community services
Lakeway The city of Lakeway launched its first mobile application program Jan. 9, Communications Coordinator Devin Monk said. The free program, available from the App Store, works with iPhones and iPads, as well as Android devices and was designed jointly by city staff and Westlake-based application developer Bar-Z, he said.
The program informs users about city news, staff contacts, events, trails, parks, gives directions and includes a bill paying feature for residents.
The city can also send out notifications to alert residents with a sound or vibration about weather, traffic or other important information, Monk said.
This app is another tool to achieve the citys ongoing goal of providing citizens with valuable news and information, Lakeway Mayor Dave DeOme said in a news release. We wanted to reach a significant segment of our community via technology that is becoming more and more popular each day.
In the month since Lakeways app became operational, 475 users downloaded the program for IOS platforms, and 85 users downloaded it for Android platforms, Monk said.
During the same time frame, the apps Trails button received the most clicks among IOS users, with Events and News as the second and third most popular, he said. The apps News button received the most clicks among Android users, with Events and Let us know as the second and third most popular, he said.
We are happy with [the app], Monk said. We wanted to make things easy to access and also have a nice-looking app.
The city does not plan to add more button options but will focus on incorporating additional program content and updating photographs, he said.
