In October, Austins Consignment Depot changed its name to Austins Furniture Outlet.

Owner Adam Block said the update better reflects the businesss emphasis on new furniture. Since the store opened in April 2009, most of its products were not consignment items but new furniture from about 40 different vendors, Block said.

Theres more of a market for new furniture here with new homes being built, he said.

Three buildings full of band-name recliners, sofas, beds, bookshelves and wall decorations occupy the site at the southwest corner of Bell and Whitestone boulevards.

Manager Carlos Fuentes said customers have reacted positively to the change. Employees expect the store to become busier, especially during tax season in the spring, he said.

The store may add a second location within a few years, Block said.

You can get all the stuff at the big chain stores, Block said. But [here] you can get a better price and better customer service and support local business.
