Officials have submitted a list of proposed transportation projects to the Houston-Galveston Area Council for possible funding in 2015.

H-GAC serves as the administrator of the Greater Houston area transportation improvement program, which is a short-term plan that lists about four years of funded transportation projects designed to construct, complete and maintain regional and statewide transportation systems.

Brazoria County Engineer Matt Hanks said the county submitted a total of six projects for funding, four of which directly affect Pearland.

"The county has representatives on the H-GAC board of directors and H-GAC committees that decide which projects it can fund in a given cycle," Hanks said. "We've had some decent success in getting projects funded."

Hanks said the county did a mobility study in 2005 and passed a mobility bond the next year.

"But the bond couldn't pay for all of them," Hanks said. "We've done some of the work on these projects, but the H-GAC funding would help us complete them."

Hanks said the county expects to hear from H-GAC on which projects will receive funding in April or May.

"We're really looking forward to seeing what we can get funded," he said.

The proposed transportation projects in Pearland include the following:

Widening CR 101: The project would widen the two-lane asphalt road to a divided four-lane concrete section from FM 1128 to CR 90. Hanks said this would offer an additional east-west corridor and will help relieve traffic congestion in between Hwy. 35 and Hwy. 288.

Replacing the overpass on Hwy. 288 at FM 518: Hanks said this three-phase project will replace the overpass as well as widen FM 518 and its frontage roads, which would make any future widening of FM 518 more efficient and help relieve traffic congestion after the FM 518 and Hwy. 288 access roads are completed.

Widening CR 59: This project would widen the two-lane asphalt road to a four-lane divided concrete section from Kirby Drive to CR 48. Hanks said this is the final phase of a project creating a corridor from Hwy. 288 to CR 48. The first phase was Hwy. 288 to Business Center Drive, and the second was Business Center to Kirby Drive.

Widening CR 58: By widening the existing two-lane asphalt road to a four-lane divided concrete section from CR 48 to the Lakes of Savannah development's improved section, Hanks said this project would relieve traffic congestion in between Hwy. 288 and the development.
