City Council on Dec. 11 approved two motions to change the Oak Hill Combined Neighborhood Plan to allow multifamily and mixed-use developments in Southwest Austin.
The plan's future land-use map describes what types of projects can be built in certain zones. Two tracts were zoned for office uses.
Council changed the tracts to multifamily and mixed-use, respectively.
The multifamily project could include 300 apartments in a three- or four-story building on the roughly 26.7-acre tract at 5436 Vega Ave.
The mixed-use project would be built on the roughly 1-acre tract at 6601 1/2 Rialto Blvd.
Leaders from the Oak Hill Combined Neighborhood Planning Contact Team endorsed the changes with some conditions, including flood control measures.
City staff endorsed the changes because they will bring housing choices to the Oak Hill area while clustering development to preserve open space.
The motions were approved as part of the council's consent agenda.
