According to unofficial results, Republican Dr. Bert Cobb has won another term as Hays County judge. Cobb defeated his Democrat opponent, Abel Velasquez, with 57.9 percent to Velasquez's 42.1 percent, with 49 of 49 precincts reporting.
The incumbent county judge received 21,927 votes with Velasquez claiming 15,951 votes.
Cobb is set to serve his second four-year term. He was first elected in 2010.
"I'm very humbled by the results of the election and very grateful to the people of Hays County for letting me be their county judge for another term," he said.
Cobb said he is excited to execute his vision for Hays County in the coming years.
"I have great plans for Hays County, so I am glad people agree with that vision to make Hays County the best county in the state of Texas," he said. "That's my goal—to leave it better than I found it."
The other two offices that were up for re-election, the commissioner seats for Precincts 2 and 4, were uncontested. Therefore, Commissioners Ray Whisenant and Mark Jones, both Republicans, will receive new terms.
Results are unofficial until canvassed.

Republican Dr. Bert Cobb appears to be on his way to another term as Hays County judge, as he is leading his Democrat opponent, Abel Velasquez, with 58.41 percent to Velasquez's 41.59 percent, according to early voting results.
Cobb has received 13,150 total votes with Velasquez claiming 9,362.
Velasquez, a first-time public office candidate, said he is waiting to receive the final results.
"The night's still young," he said.
If re-elected, Cobb would serve his second four-year term. Cobb was first elected in 2010.
