Sisters Debbie and Sherri Mylius and business partner Amy Knight plan to open Proof Liquor & Deli, 3420 B FM 967, Buda, on March 1.

The 2,300-square-foot liquor store will feature a deli—serving soups and sandwiches—and a small grocery market.

Local vodka, beer and wine will be among the alcohol selection. Gourmet items, such as hams, cheeses and olives will be available in the market. Deli patrons will have seating in an outdoor area, which will be Wi-Fi-equipped.

The shop will also feature fresh flowers, gifts and bath items.

The ownership group originally planned to open the store at 318 North Main Street in downtown Buda, but a rezoning ordinance initially approved on June 17 was overturned in a July 1 second reading as the council voted 4-3 against the ordinance.

Council members who voted the measure down said allowing a liquor store to operate downtown would conflict with the family-friendly atmosphere city leaders are trying to promote there.

Tamra and Travis Tindol plan to reopen Hays City Store, 8995 FM 3237, Driftwood in early 2015. The restaurant and bar will serve a variety of cocktails and beers as well as a full menu featuring seasonal vegetables and proteins, said Tamra, who currently serve as general manager of the Salty Sow in Austin.

"We're not copying what Salty Sow does, but we'll be doing that whole craft cocktail thing where a lot of attention is paid to ingredients," she said. "[We'll use] herbal infused sweet and sour mixes, herbal-infused simple syrup, fresh juices, nothing powdered, nothing saccharine."

Tamra said the restaurant will make use of the surrounding farms, breweries, wineries and distilleries by sourcing many ingredients locally.

Hays City Store will also feature a small general store.

"There are a lot of subdivisions in that area, so if you forget flour or milk you have to go all the way back into town to get it," she said.
