The Fireball Run, a live-action trivia game with 40 teams racing across the country, begins Sept. 27 with a city-wide celebration at Frisco Square. Sept. 28 is the official start of the rally.
Frisco Mayor Maher Maso and Councilman John Keating will join as one of the teams racing from Frisco to Independence, Missouri.
Each team is tasked with handing out posters of a missing child during the game. Maso and Keating will raise awareness for 7-year-old Wendy Diaz, who was last seen in Dallas on April 22, 2012.
"Fireball Run is a great opportunity for us to showcase our city," Maso said. "But more importantly, it's about helping find missing children in America. Being able to distribute thousands of posters of the North Texas missing child Wendy Diaz brings a new level of exposure to her case and, hopefully, will lead to her being found. So, we'll have fun along the way, all for a good cause."
Keating said he's proud Frisco is the starting line for the race.
"It's a great event that has an even greater purpose since its ultimate goal is helping find missing children," he said. "Even more impressive is the fact Fireball Run has experienced success in helping locate at least 43 missing children since its inception in 2007. Personally, I'm honored to be selected to be part of the Frisco Road Kings team in this 'adventurally.'"
The celebration on Sept. 27 begins at 9 a.m. and will include food trucks, a car show and live entertainment. The annual Lone Star Storytelling Festival will also start at 10:30 a.m. inside city hall.
The Fireball Run series can be viewed on Roku, GoogleTV, Amazon FireTV and SmartTV. The series is also available on iTunes and YouTube.
