Reed Elementary School, Leander ISD's newest school at 1515 Little Elm Trail, Cedar Park, opened Aug. 25 along with all other 36 campuses in the district.

Staffers said 684 Reed students in kindergarten through fifth grade met in the new school auditorium by about 7:45 am. before walking in lines to their classrooms.

The campus was set to open in 2011, but LISD chose to delay occupancy because of budget constraints. The school is named after Officer Leonard A. Reed, who was a member of the Cedar Park Police Department and served as a school resource officer at Vista Ridge High School from 2006–08. He died in an on-duty motorcycle accident Aug. 18, 2010.

Parent Emily Pechal said the newly formed Reed Elementary School PTA is looking for business sponsors to help fund start-up costs and programs at the new campus. Those interested can contact Pechal at [email protected].
