Pflugerville officials approved construction of two neighborhood parks in late August—one in the Windermere neighborhood and the other in Pfluger Heights.
City Council approved $330,331 for construction of the parks Aug. 26. The money comes from park escrow funds and proceeds from Deutschen Pfest, said James Hemenes, Pflugerville Parks and Recreation director.
"Both [park] concepts include a shade structure, playground, sidewalks, landscape, drinking fountains and various site amenities," Hemenes said.
Hemenes said half courts for basketball had been dropped from plans for each park but could potentially be added.
Black Locust Park will sit on undeveloped land on Black Locust Drive between Valley Glen Road and Ardisia Drive. The 4-acre park will have a "front porch" theme, which is intended to be a place for residents to meet and interact, according to city plans.
The 1-acre Pfluger Heights Park will be located at the corner of Stevie Ray Drive and Howlin Wolf Trail. It will have a "guitar park" theme that will harmonize with the neighborhood's musically named street names. A portion of the park will be structured like the neck of a guitar, city plans show.
