On June 17, the Texas Stars, who play their home hockey games at the Cedar Park Center, won the American Hockey League's Calder Cup championship after defeating the St. John's IceCaps in overtime.
The final score of Game 5 in St. John's in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, was 4-3.
Though the Stars have advanced to the finals four out of the past five years, it is the first Calder Cup win for the franchise. The Stars also played for the Calder Cup during the team's debut season in 2009–10.
