Lori Moya said she will not seek reelection to the Austin ISD board of trustees in November after an eight-year career on the board.
Moya, who has served as Austin ISD District 6 trustee for two terms, said in an email message July 1 to her supporters and constituents that she is proud of AISD's accomplishments. She cited implementing new programs, improving academic achievement among all student groups, passing bonds and constructing new buildings.
"These accomplishments are not mine alone; they are the accomplishments of the students, faculty, staff, parents and community at large," she said. "There are also significant challenges, the biggest being the ongoing, significant reductions in state funding and over reliance on local property tax to fund public education where the state of Texas is falling short."
Moya is one of the five trustees whose terms expire in November. Trustee Robert Schneider said July 1 he will seek reelection, while trustee Vincent Torres announced last week his name will not be on the ballot. Election day is Nov. 4.
