Memorial Hermann is expanding its presence into the Cypress area with plans to build a new hospital campus on a 32-acre site on the northeast side of Hwy. 290 south of Mason Road.
Although a time frame for construction has not been set, officials with Memorial Hermann said population growth in the Cypress area prompted the decision to buy the land.
"If you look at the way growth is occurring in the region, the Grand Parkway and Hwy. 290 vicinity is probably going to be a major hub as we move forward," said John Ambler, chief communication officer for Memorial Hermann. "If you're going to have a significant facility, you want it to be in that area with thinking what the future needs will be."
More details about the size of the campus, design and hospital services could be released late this year, but Ambler said there will be major inpatient and outpatient capability and that the acreage is sufficient to allow for a major facility.
"We recognize there is an important growing population in the Cypress area and are looking forward to having the opportunity to provide the world-class care [residents] deserve," Ambler said.
