Leadership Round Rock broke ground on an outdoor learning center at Bluebonnet Elementary School that includes six raised gardening beds and a covered amphitheater for lecturing and presentations.
The center, located on the west side of the school where the current garden is located, will serve the school's 550 students. Leadership Round Rock, a program run through the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce, is spearheading the facility as a service project for Round Rock ISD. The facility will cost about $14,000 and Leadership Round Rock is still seeking donations to help finance the project.
"This project really hit home for our class because of the need that we saw at this school that many people don't think of when they think about Round Rock," said Leadership Round Rock student Heather Michel Riddle in a news release. "Being able to make an impact on a large number of kids that deserve to have great learning materials struck home with us."
The outdoor learning center, located at 1010 Chisholm Valley Drive, is expected to be complete in fall 2015 and will also be used for classroom space.
