According to unofficial results, school teacher Brenda Hoppe has won the race for Magnolia City Council Position 4, ousting incumbent Jo Ann Schermerhorn with 59.15 percent to Schermerhorn's 40.85 percent with all 71 precincts reporting.
Hoppe was elected to serve a two-year term with 84 votes to Schermerhorn's 58.
The proposition to reauthorize local sales and use tax in Magnolia at the rate of one-fourth of one percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets passed with 120 votes, or 76.92 percent, in favor and 36 votes, or 23.08 percent, in opposition.
Mayor Todd Kana ran unopposed for his seat and was re-elected to another two-year term. Jonny Williams, who finished out the term of his late wife Patsy, also ran unopposed and was elected to a two-year term to Position 5.

School teacher Brenda Hoppe is leading the race for Magnolia City Council Position 4 after early returns with 65 percent of the vote and 114 votes counted.
Hoppe holds the edge over the incumbent Jo Ann Schermerhorn, who has garnered 35 percent of the vote.
Hoppe has been a school teacher in Magnolia ISD for 17 years and has lived in the city of Magnolia since 2007. This is the first time she has run for elected office.
Schermerhorn has lived in Magnolia for nine years and has served one full term on the council. She was appointed to City Council in March 2012 and then elected to a term in May 2012.

The mayor and council serve two-year terms with no term limits and no compensation.
