According to unofficial results, Larry Burmeier and Jerry Hietpas won the May 10 race for two seats on the Lakeway Municipal Utility District board of directors.
With all precincts reporting, Burmeier had 37.87 percent of the vote, while Hietpas had 33.71. Fellow candidate Tom Armstrong had the fewest votes, with 28.43 percent according to the final tally.
Hietpas, an incumbent, thanked voters for participating in the election process.
"I felt so good that we had a contested election where we were able to make people aware of the important issues, and I think we accomplished that," he said. "And now I expect that we're going to have a well-qualified board who will continue to serve not only the members of the Lakeway MUD, but also our longtime customers, the staff of the MUD and the community of the city of Lakeway."
Hietpas said he hopes the city will be able to make adjustments necessary to adapt to the shortage of the water in the lake, including conservation.
In another race, four candidates contended for three Travis County Water Control and Improvement District 17 seats. The final report from Travis County showed Rob Carruthers had the most votes with 28.86 percent, followed by David Lewis Steed (25.97 percent) and Mickey Decker (25.22 percent).
With all precincts reporting, Jeffry Lane lost with 19.95 percent of the vote.
All results are unofficial until canvassed.
