The Tomball Economic Development Corporation will host a groundbreaking ceremony on its 120-acre Business and Technology Park on May 6 at the site.
The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony, which is at 2:30 p.m. at 11526 Holderrieth Road, Tomball. The groundbreaking event, originally scheduled for Jan. 29, was postponed due to inclement weather, TEDC's Executive Director Kelly Violette said. The event was rescheduled for May 6.
"The groundbreaking is a big celebration for us because it's a project we have been working on for two and a half years now," Violette said. "This is the start of moving dirt and actually seeing this project come into fruition. I don't think a lot of people realize how much groundwork goes into a project like this before you actually see dirt moving out there."
The Business and Technology Park is expected to build on the growth in the region and provide a number of economic benefits by offering development ready sites for new and expanding businesses, she said.
"It's really a multitude of economic impacts from companies between property tax, personal property, sales tax and the indirect benefits of employees and their families and spending habits," Violette said.
The TEDC has hired Colliers International to market the sale of the park.
"We have primarily been marketing it as a master-planned business park with variable lot sizes that can accommodate a number of different uses," Violette said.
A contractor has been hired to clear the site. Once the land has been cleared, the M118 drainage channel, roadways and utilities will all be installed. This process is expected to take about 15 to 18 months, Violette said.
