Katy ISD students will make up the second of two inclement weather days on May 26, according to school district officials.
The district cancelled classes due to safety concerns on January 24 and 28 when icy weather hit the area. When drafting the annual academic calendar, state law mandates that districts designate two make-up days.
Katy ISD initially asked the Texas Education Agency to waive the two days but the request was denied. The first of the two make-up days was held on Feb. 17—President's Day—the remaining make up day falls on Memorial Day.
"We understand that many families have made plans for the February 17 and May 26 holidays and deeply regret any inconvenience that the make-up days have caused," the district said in a written statement.
