Following recent districtwide late starts and cancellations related to inclement weather, Austin ISD has added Feb. 17 as a make-up day.
Previously, parent-teacher conferences for elementary school students and a secondary staff development day were scheduled. Those events have been cancelled, according to a district news release.
Buses will operate on a regular schedule that day.
During the past few weeks, snow and icy conditions have affected districts statewide, according to the Texas Education Agency.
In Texas, school districts and charters have to build two "makeup days" for school closures into their adopted school calendar. If dates for the designated makeup days have already passed, schools must make up at least two of the scheduled instructional days lost. Earlier this week, the TEA asked school districts and charters seeking waivers for bad weather days for this school year to submit their requests in March.
AISD's Feb. 17 make-up day is part of its approved 2013–14 school year calendar.
