For the first time since 2009, there will be a contested seat for the Round Rock City Council.
Will Peckham, owner of Round Rock Travel & Cruises, announced Feb. 3 his intention to run against Carlos Salinas for the Place 4 seat. Salinas, who has held the seat since 2005, announced in January he would be seeking a fourth term on the council.
"I've had the privilege to be part of the positive growth we have experienced in Round Rock and understand we must continue building our community together," Peckham said. "My family and I are honored and humbled by so many of the community leaders encouraging me to continue my service as a councilman."
In addition to owning a Round Rock business, Peckham has served on the city's Planning and Zoning and Ethics commissions. He has also served as a treasurer and assistant treasurer for three city elections and was an appointed member of the 2013 Williamson County Bond Advisory Committee.
Peckham is married and has four children. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University.
Round Rock's City Council election will take place May 10. The last day to file an application to be included on the ballot is Feb. 24.
