Edith Marler is an expert at turning gently used furniture into art.

Just off Grapevine's Main Street at 422 S. Barton St., her business, A Painted Tale, is a combination gallery, supply shop and academy.

Besides selling pieces she's found at estate sales and painted, Marler teaches classes on gilding and painting. She also sells tools and specialty paints, including Reclaim and Maison Blanche.

The gallery opened in August, but Marler had previously hired out to paint furniture in her garage at home. She is glad to be in the gallery.

"Painting classes have been a big hit, so we will be offering more in 2014," Marler said. "There's a French style that is real popular now and we'll be having several of those."
