Construction on at least one segment of Little Elm Trail between RM 620 and US 183 will begin this year, according to Cedar Park city staff.

Private residential developer Milestone Community Builders has started construction on the approximately $2.08 million road segment near Reed Elementary School, linking Little Elm Trail with US 183, said Jennie Huerta, Cedar Park media and communications manager.

"The estimated construction completion date is early summer 2014," Huerta said.

The city will fund construction of a second road segment from the Cypress Creek Townhomes to the Red Oak neighborhood to the north, Cedar Park Engineering Director Darwin Marchell said in October. Another city-paid portion of Little Elm Trail would span from the Cypress Creek neighborhood behind the Randalls grocery store to link with South Lakeline Boulevard.

Design work on the two city-funded road sections is scheduled to start in February, Huerta said.

The roadway expansion could alleviate traffic on Cypress Creek Road, Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long said in October. On Nov. 5, county voters approved a $315 million road bond package that included a total of $4.22 million for work on Little Elm Trail.
