At its Dec. 10 meeting, City Council accepted the final donation of 207 acres for the future development of the 528-acre Garey Park on Leander Road. The gift is the final land donation from Jack and Cammy Garey, who announced in 2004 they would donate their home and ranch to become a city park.

The family has also donated $5 million in matching funds for the park's development. In 2008 voters approved $10 million in bonds for the park's development.

The master plan was completed in 2006, and the Parks and Recreation Department will begin construction design work in 2014.
