Travis County Commissioners Court took no action Dec. 10 to ban the sale and use of fireworks in unincorporated areas of the county.
The court would have had to take action during the meeting, which is the last before a Dec. 15 deadline.
Fire Marshal Hershel Lee said the court's decision to ban fireworks is based on the average amount of moisture in the ground. This year, the ground is saturated from recent rains.
Lee said the court could still ban fireworks through a disaster declaration, but that scenario seemed unlikely.
The December fireworks selling season runs from Dec. 20 to Jan. 1. Fireworks cannot be used inside city of Austin limits.
