Community members can share feedback about pedestrian and cycling amenities in Austin as part of the city's outreach effort around its Bicycle and Urban Trails Plan.
At an open house Nov. 14 in Southwest Austin, city staff will provide attendees with information about Austin's cycling and pedestrian trails network. The city is in the process of establishing an Urban Trails Master Plan and updating the 2009 Bicycle Master Plan to include an "all-ages and abilities" active transportation network, Public Information Specialist Shannon Wisner said.
"We want to create safe facilities—kind of like the cycle track on Guadalupe that we recently implemented—that have some type of physical separation, because that increases safety. So the 'all ages and abilities' basically means anyone from 8 years old to 80 years old would feel safe bicycling in those areas," she said.
Wisner said the Nov. 14 open house will seek input on proposed concepts for South Austin trails. The city's Bicycle and Urban Trails Plan is expected to be complete and ready for City Council adoption in spring 2014.
The South Open House takes place from 5:30–8:30 p.m., with a presentation at 7 p.m., at the First Evangelical Free Church of Austin, 4220 Monterey Oaks Blvd. There is no cost to attend. More information is available at www.austintexas.gov/yourpath.
