Round Rock ISD Superintendent Steve Flores announced Oct. 22 that the district is seeking volunteers through Nov. 5 for a Citizens Bond Committee.

Because of the district's projected growth, it is considering holding a bond election in 2014. At RRISD's board of trustees meeting Oct. 17, a possible May 2014 bond election was discussed because the district needs to build a new elementary school and middle school, among other items. Should the board decide to hold a May 2014 bond election, it must call an election by Feb. 28.

JoyLynn Occhiuzzi, the district's executive director of community relations, said anyone in the community can sign up to volunteer for the Citizens Bond Committee, which is responsible for assessing and presenting the needs of the district to the board. The committee will be split up into four subcommittees to assess different needs in the district: elementary, secondary, finance and district and technology. On the application, volunteers are encouraged to specify which subcommittee he or she is most interested in.

"We are looking for individuals who are committed to helping Round Rock ISD, who are passionate about doing what is best for kids," Occhiuzzi said.

Applications may be submitted on the district's website.
