Williamson County officials announced Oct. 18 that Dinosaur Day set for Oct. 19 is canceled due to recent rains. It is now set for May 17, 2014.

"The ground is saturated from our recent rains, so we cannot hold many of the activities that are part of this fun, family event," Williamson County's Director of Parks Randy Bell said in a statement. "We have rescheduled Dino Day for the spring when people can enjoy all the wildflowers that grow at the park."

Champion Park in Cedar Park is home to the fifth annual Dinosaur Day Oct. 19, a free event open to the public and hosted by Williamson County.

From 10 a.m.–2 p.m., the community is invited to participate in demonstrations and educational activities with a nature and dinosaur theme. The event features live music, refreshments, a bounce house, teachings from a visiting paleontologist and crafts.

In addition, heavy equipment from the Williamson County Road and Bridge Division will be on site with descriptions of how the machines compare to the size of prehistoric creatures.

The 33-acre park, which opened in fall 2007, features a covered children's sand area with stone casts of life-size dinosaur bone replicas and a specially designed boulders for climbing. The fishing and grilling areas as well as the abutting Brushy Creek Regional Trail are open during the event.

Champion Park is located at 3830 Brushy Creek Road, Cedar Park.
