Five candidates are running for the Place 4 Leander City Council seat vacated by Michell Cantwell, who on Aug. 27 announced her resignation in order to run for Williamson County treasurer.

Six candidates, including former Mayor John Cowman, originally applied for placement on the Nov. 5 ballot. However, Cowman withdrew his application Sept. 23.

The five remaining candidates include Ronald Abruzzese, the Leander Planning and Zoning Commission chairman, and Realtor Dan Michie. Three candidates who previously ran for office in Leander also appear on the ballot, including Jerry Perez, who challenged Cantwell for the Place 4 seat in May 2012 and again ran for council earlier this year, losing the election for Place 3 against Councilman Simon Garcia.

Randy Caldwell ran unsuccessfully against Councilman David Siebold for Place 6 in May 2012. Bob Hanson lost his bid for mayor in May 2012.

All Leander City Council seats are at-large positions. The term for Place 4 expires in May 2015.
