Board members and district officials with Fort Bend ISD will hold an Educational Futures Conference Wednesday, Sept. 18 to discuss the district's needs and gather feedback from the community. Two meetings are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and will be held at the FBISD Administrative Annex at 3119 Sweetwater Boulevard in Sugar Land.

The futures conference is expected to bring several topics to the table, said FBISD superintendent Charles Dupre, and will set off a series of public meetings aimed at involving the community in aligning the facilities and curriculum systems currently in place. The conference will present problems facing the district along with several proposed solutions and will ask residents to provide their ideas and feedback.

"The goal of this whole process is to be as inclusive as possible," Dupre said. "We want to make sure that anyone and everyone who wants to have a voice is able to have a voice."

As part of the futures conference, the district will choose a 30–40 member steering committee made up of stakeholder volunteers to study the district's needs, hear resident's feedback and present their findings to the board.

On Feb. 10, the board expects to present findings that will include a five-year strategic master plan, a five-year facilities master plan, a recommendation concerning school boundaries and a recommendation for board policy changes. A study of elementary school boundaries will continue from mid-February–late March and will consist of community meetings and board workshops. The board is scheduled to adopt school boundary recommendations in early April.
