The Round Rock Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Partnership announced Sept. 13 the resignation of President/CEO Doug Kurkul, effective immediately.

According to a news release from the chamber, the board of directors is forming a search committee to find Kurkul's replacement.

"Under Doug's leadership, the chamber's membership grew and our retention and recruitment efforts were outstanding," said Bryant Smith, incoming chairman of the board for the chamber. "We are thankful for Doug's leadership and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Kurkul was named president/CEO of the chamber in 2010.

Prior to coming to Round Rock, he served as CEO of the Reno Sparks Chamber of Commerce from 2007–2010. Other prior experience includes a 21-year career with the National Association of Manufacturers and an appointment by President Ronald Reagan to the U.S. Department of Energy.

In 2011, the chamber helped facilitate a deal with Fortune 500 company Emerson Process Management to relocate the company's headquarters and 750 jobs into Round Rock.

That same year, IKEA announced its plans to expand its Round Rock store by adding 54,000 square feet of retail space and a parking garage.

More recently, the chamber has helped facilitate the relocation to Round Rock of ClearCorrect, a manufacturer of removable dental braces that was named the fastest-growing health company in the U.S. in 2011 by Inc. Magazine.

In August, the chamber and the city solidified a deal with Bass Pro Shops to build a 104,000-square-foot Outdoor World store adjacent to the Round Rock Premium Outlets.
