Williamson County, in collaboration with the city of Cedar Park and Waste Management, will host a free household hazardous waste collection event 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Sept. 21 in Leander.
The event will be held at the Leander maintenance facility parking lot, 607 Municipal Drive, Leander, and is open to all Williamson County residents.
The program is designed to collect hazardous materials that would otherwise pollute landfills. Among the accepted items are acids, antifreeze, batteries, cleaning products, household items labeled as poisonous, pool and lawn chemicals, used motor oil and other automobile fluids, paints, electronics such as televisions and VCRs, and computer-related items.
Residents are encouraged to sort items prior to dropping them off in the original containers. The event is closed to commercial businesses and contractors.
Items that will not be accepted include agricultural chemicals, containers larger than 5 gallons, aluminum and other metals, tires, cardboard, household trash, propane cylinders, medical waste and large kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, washers and dryers.
Volunteers will be on site to help dispose of the hazardous materials.
