The Bee Cave Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the first renderings of the new Chili's restaurant planned for the Hill Country Galleria during its Sept. 3 meeting.

Aaron Howell of GHA Architecture represented Chili's and presented the drawings of the proposed eatery. Commission members questioned Howell regarding the Chili's signature color, bright red, in the awning and logo on the building. Members said that the color is not in compliance with the city's ordinance regarding exterior colors.

Howell said that Chili's has changed its awning color in very rare instances but, if at all possible, uses the awnings pictured in the renderings as part of its image.

The commission voted unanimously to recommend the Chili's site plan to City Council; however, members also recommended that Chili's change their logo and awning colors to muted earth tones to be more consistent with the city's ordinance.
