After an unexpected two-week delay, Denver–based Smashburger opened Aug. 28 at Lakeline Market, 14028 N. US 183, Austin.
Brad Brown, Smashburger's Austin market regional director, said the delay was due to permitting issues with the city of Austin.
"The store has been essentially done for three weeks, but we've just been getting the permitting process taken care of, which took longer than expected," he said.
Smashburger has 200 locations in five countries including the U.S., Canada, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Costa Rica. The Lakeline Market location is the fourth in the Austin area, with one in Temple, one in New Braunfels and another on Slaughter Lane. A fifth Austin-area Smashburger is expected to open near the Mueller H-E-B by the end of the year, Brown said.
"We like to be located near a community because we have a very strong weekend and dinner crowds," he said. "A lot of our business comes from the other businesses that we are near, so we like to be close to families and neighborhoods."
The 1,870-square-foot fast-casual restaurant serves chicken and beef burgers, salads, fries, sides and milkshakes, beer and wine, and root beer floats. The establishment is open 10 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
