Cedar Park has hired an engineering consultant to review the city's long-range water and wastewater plans.
On Aug. 22, Cedar Park City Council unanimously selected California-based Carollo Engineers Inc. among eight firms to update the water and wastewater plans for the first time since 2008 and 2010, respectively. Both long-range plans are expected to be complete by December, according to city documents, which also state the contract costs $100,000.
Carollo will provide recommendations for improving the city's water system to accommodate future needs, said Eric Rauschuber, Cedar Park director of utilities, during the Aug. 22 meeting. The engineering firm will use an advanced computer simulation to model several different potential growth patterns and identify what utility infrastructure needs may arise from each scenario, city documents state.
Their analysis will include a timeline and cost estimate of proposed improvement projects as well as a review of the city's existing utility infrastructure, Rauschuber said. The long-range water plan will not identify alternative water sources, city documents state.
